Jesus in Islam

Mamoon Al-Rashid ruled at the height of the AbAssid empire. He himself
was a man of profound knowledge and liked to see learned scholars
around him.
At times he would hold a dialogue between scholars of various
religions and denominations and arrange polemics between Muslims and
others.
Once he invited learned Christians and Jews to the court and asked
Imam RezA(AS) to answere their arguments.
Discussing the person of Jesus, his sonship of God and other Christian
belifes, the Christians argued that at leasr Jesus was one in whom
Muslims also belived, while Mohammad(SAW) was exclusive to the Muslims
alone.
To this, Imam said:”Yes, we do belive in Jesus, son of Mary. He was a
Prophet of God. He was pious. But, there was a flaw in his conduct.”
The Christians were amazed to hear this and restlessly enquired: “What
was the flaw?”
The Imam said: “Well, he prayed less. His prostrations were few, his
supplications scarce and occasional.”
The Christians retorted:”That indeed is preposterous. Jesus is known
to be always worshiping. He always prostrated and prayed to his Lord.”
Imam RezA(AS) smiled and said: “If that was so, to who did he pray and
before whom did he prostrate and worship-if he himself was God, as you
all profess?”

Great website, love all the content. I however have an honest question here.

Why would the Imam say Jesus was pious? If he was lying about being God then can a liar be pious? I personally would not consider a liar to be pious. And do not understand how Jesus can be a good man and a liar at the same time. Perhaps the Imam was lying to try and be nice to the Christians and win them to Islam by being gentle with the One they love? Or the Imam spoke incorrectly when he called a liar pious. Either way doesn’t it seem like it is the Imam in this story that is flawed?

as per Muslim belif & fact is that Jesus never said himself as a GOD but always a guide and prophet from the side of Allah. Thats’s the reason Imam (a.s) said him as pious. But later on it were few people started beliving him as a God & Son of God and Holy Spirit….
