I understand that the moral behind this is that what counts is what is inside a person, not their material/superficial layers. However, I find it written carelessly in a biased form, whether or not it was intentional. As a Muslim myself, I believe that just as we should not see glory in superficial matters, at the same time, it is wrong to judge a person and make a presumption of his or her character and label them as something – solely on whether or not he or she dresses in a way that symbolizes his/her faith and in a pious fashion. This story has deemed Ahmed’s mother and sister as less than worthy Muslims based on two factors: they don’t wear hijab, and the mother is concerned about education and financial levels of the bride to be. In the real world, we have to put all aspects together and ask Allah to bless us with our efforts along His blessings. He helps those who make an effort in this life. Higher education today is not something of the past where people used to show off their college degrees. Today it is a necessity if you are planning on having a typical Arab/Muslim household of more than one child. Jobs are scarce. The cost of living is so high. Allah and the Prophet Muhammed Peace be upon him never under estimated education. Education, knowledge, is the light to Allah’s wisdom and blessings. True, one must have faith to get anything, anywhere – but seeking the aide of higher education and financial stability is not haram. It should go hand in hand with a pious heart. Also, to assume that a Muslim who is not covering her hair is not worthy of respect is so biased and prejudiced in it’s own way! How many times in the Holy Quran has our prophet turned away in prejudice, a woman who may not look like the perfect pure example? Did he not have the heart to not judge anyone beforehand? There are too many women out there by the way, who DO cover from head to toe, who DO utter Allah’s words and pretend to be the pious. When behind doors, the first thing they do is covet everything they see their neighbor has, and the first words they utter behind doors are words of slander and jealousy and back talk of friends and family. They try to act and dress in a religious manner, but speak as though they never got the true message of Islam all their life! Then Allah reveals to you a woman that may not have her head covered…but she comes to you in such good hearted faith, with pure intentions, and would never utter slander or jealous words, nor covet what you have. It is a Muslim’s duty on earth to be the example from within by not judging others for what they LOOK like. That person without a hijab just might be the one to save your life Inshallah…
