Always Speak the Truth

Telling the truth is a very good habit. If you always speak the truth, you can save yourselves from lots of trouble!

Here is the story of a man, who did a lot of bad things, but his promise to tell the truth saved him. This is a true story, so read it carefully.

Once a man came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and said, “Oh Prophet of Allah, I have many bad habits. Which one of them should I give up first?”

The Prophet said, “Give up telling lies first and always speak the truth.” The man promised to do so and went home.

At night the man was about to go out to steal. Before setting out, he thought for a moment about the promise he made with the Prophet. “If tomorrow the Prophet asks me where have I been, what shall I say?

Shall I say that I went out stealing? No, I cannot say that. But nor can I lie. If I tell the truth, everyone will start hating me and call me a thief. I would be punished for stealing.”

So the man decided not to steal that night, and gave up this bad habit.

Next day, he felt like drinking wine, when he was about to do so, he said to himself, “What shall I say to the prophet if he asks me what did I do during the day? I cannot tell a lie, and if I speak the truth people will hate me, because a Muslim is not allowed to drink wine.”

And so he gave up the idea of drinking wine.

In this way, whenever the man thought of doing something bad, he remembered his promise to tell the truth at all times. One by one, he gave up all his bad habits and became a good Muslim and a very good person.

MORAL: Make a promise: I shall always speak the truth.

I dont think you need to Allah or a Prophet to speak the truth. You know the difference between right and wrong. dont let your own inscurities keep you from your inner being. we all do that and in finding that you will find your own inner truth…

Okay, but in the Prophet, there is a perfect example. He was set on this earth to show us the path to good.

We know as it is in innate nature but many of us forget it and start doing the evil acts. One of AIM of the sending of the Prophets is to remind what we have forgettion from our innate nature & to remind the bounties of Almighty which reverts him to true innate nature so that he believe Him as a Creator.

      • Arshad Khan Says:

        Dear moralsandethics,

I think my question is very simple. And my question does not cross the bounties of Allah SWT, wa-nouzobillah. Also there is no question of belief, yes offcourse he is the creator.

I think you better understand my question.

Normal story can be a story but when you are using the name of Prophet Mohammed PBUH (SAW) then yes, need the source of information or the authenticity of the fact. Then it is not the story, its the fact when the name our prophet (Mohammed PBUH) comes.

I will be grateful if you can get me the source of information.

Which book of Hadeeth (Hadees) it is from or from which book it is taken?

        Jazakallah wa khair.

Admiring the hard work you put into your blog and detailed information you present. It’s awesome to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same unwanted rehashed material. Great read! I’ve saved your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.

I was just thinking about if you ever thought about re-structuring the arrangement of the website? It has always been fairly well written and I really like the things you have got to write about. And maybe you can do a little extra with regard to subject matter so people could associate with it more easily. I can notice that you already have got considerable of text for merely having 1 or 2 images. Perhaps you could possibly space it out a little better?
